Video of Cebu Protest Against Oil Price Hike March 31, 2011

Transport group Piston along with militant groups Gabriela, Bayan Muna and Anak Pawis, rally along the Osmeña Boulevard, infront of the Metrobank Plaza to protest against the seemingly unceasing increase of oil price, calling upon DOE and the President Aquino to take actions, before a possible transport strike could hit Cebu.

The protest was simultaneous with other rallies in the country, which militant groups call as National Day of Protest.

Piston calls on the removal of VAT on oil prices and repeal of the oil deregulation law.

The strikers went on despite warnings from LTFRB and the government to revoke operators' licenses.

Malacañang urgend the protesters to reconsider their positions since the oil price increase, caused by the political unrests in the Middle East and North Africa, is beyond their control.

11:45 am this morning, March 31, 2011, the protesters moved from Osmena Blvd to the Provincial LTO office.

Netizens have expressed their support calling on the government to intercede and cushion the impact of oil price hike.

But many Filipinos aired their angst online against the nationwide protest.

"I am so amazed that the drivers of those jalopies and moving coffins had the guts to protest with the rising of fuel prices and yet they drive daily as if they are in a race track or idling for long minutes and blocking the flow of traffic."
