I was surprised just how light these tiles are. They feel and weigh about the same as styrofoam.

The space shop . com
one word and you'll be able to find a piece

do you think 1947 had anything to do with that tile?
-
Do you have a source where I can purchase a piece of LI-900 tile, about the same size as yours? I've been all over the internet and sent several emails to NASA contractors & ceramics mfrs, but have gotten no response.
I would have thought by now, that this would have been made available to the public for research. Am I wrong???

ok thanks alot
hi im doing a presenation about HRSI tiles for school, which are the silica tiles. Is this tile in the video a silica tile without the black coating? or is it one of the other types of tiles?

This is the same material. The black coating is used on the higher heating areas and those tiles are also much thicker. The only other material used on the orbiters is a flexible "blanket" type material for low-heating areas.
