"Honest Abe"

i48 | 2008 is the fifth annual Idaho Forty Eight Hour Film Competition and Festival. Modeled after a similar event that originated in Washington D.C., teams of filmmakers from around Idaho will have 48 hours to write, pre-produce, cast, shoot, and edit, an original short film four to seven minutes long. A week later, all completed films will be screened at the Flicks in Boise, Idaho, with a "Best Of i48" Screening and Awards Ceremony at the Egyptian Theatre. Subsequent screenings will be held in other participating cities throughout Idaho.

Team Sidewayz was given the category Silent Film. This came as a huge shock to Ronn and the rest of the team. We had our boom mics, and sound equipment ready... and had no use for it! We also had some great talented actors and singers.... yeah... no talking! Our prop was a dust mask, our character was Loretta Young who was a fixer and our line of dialogue was "Just Keep Them Coming". At 6:30 we started with an hour of brain storming and then cut loose the writers and the music composers to start making magic. We rallied back together around 10:00 and started the decision making of which actors were going to play the different characters and which locations we were going to use. Props were being gathered, a shooting schedule was being made, and we finished our shot list at around 1:00 in the morning. With a 6:00 in the morning wake up call we met at the headquarters and made our way to our first location. Shooting continued throughout the day and night with ease. Everyone had their role, from setting up lights, getting contracts signed, pushing the dolly to catering the food. Everyone did it extremely well. We stopped for two, one hour breaks and finished filming at 11:30 Saturday night. Then the fun began. Inputting the rest of the P2 cards into the computer and the editing begins. Around 2:15 in the morning Ronn asked where the "Chevron" scene and the "Bar" scene was. Angel looked everywhere... three times. They were no where to be found. Then came the tears. A P2 card was not entered correctly, and it had been recorded over. Ronn edited until 3:15 with the footage he had and finally called it a night. He was up again at 5:30, edited for an hour and went back to sleep. Angel slept an hour and a half, and tried to come up with a solution to the problem of missing two critical scenes. She called Melody at 8:00 in the morning (Sunday) and between the two of them had the shoot rescheduled. We re shot the footage at Chevron from 9:00 until 10:30. Ronn went back to editing while Angel shot the bar scene of Melody. Then it was just mad editing. At 4:00 we were about three quarters of the way done. At 5:00 Ronn started tightening things up... audio levels and working on transitions. At 5:30 Ronn went to self contain the film and it said 30 minutes until completed. Oh the stress. So it actually only took 22 minutes which made Ronn and Angel have a mad dash to The Flicks.... only 8 minutes left or Sidewayz would be disqualified! So after a few illegal maneuvers and almost getting ran off the road, Ronn and Angel made it to The Flicks, parked and ran to the table on the patio. 6:00 on the dot. After waiting in line to get the film off of the hard drive, the feeling of sleepiness began to overcome them both. Team Sidewayz had done it. And here is their result.

Hmm, I don't really see a point in showing how that bill changed hands in the first part, since the ending she just gives him another and doesn't have anything to do with the original bill other than she was kind to this thief. What would have been better is if somehow that bill looped and ended up in her hands, either after giving the thief more or that it was the one given to him.

Great moral, shot well, and all this in 48 hours?? Fantastic! Bill, Wilfords, loved it. Lauren: you know this already, but you can act perdy darn well!
