The Model Railroad Club of Milwaukee had an open day Saturday 17 July 2010. Early club members included William K. Walthers, Frank Zeidler, and Al Kalmbach. At an early open day, visitors discovered their equipment didn't run on the club's trackage, and subsequent discussions led to the organization of the National Model Railroad Association, observing its 75th birthday with a national convention in Milwaukee. Here a Milwaukee Union Terminal livestock block crosses the high line, and a merchandise despatch train (the precursor of FedEx) leaves city streets for a run to the country.
