PRESENTED BY CASSIE WALKER BROUGHT TO YOU BY

Felix Riebl was born in 1981 to Austrian and Australian parents, much of his youth was spent between rural Victoria and metropolitan Europe, though the central place of home, and the platform of his music career would definitively become Melbourne. Classical music was a part of his fantastical childhood, where in Austria his uncle was professor at the Salzburg Conservatorium and a touring viola player whose wider family would bring Felix to watch and sit amongst the Vienna Philharmonic. In Australia, as a piano, percussion, and creative arts student, he was especially influenced by the rock poets Springsteen / Cave / Knopfler / Cohen / Dylan, Afro-Cuban music, and the multi-ethnic Melbourne's live music scene.

He would go on to become a singer/songwriter, whose decade long project: The Cat Empire has seen him make collaborations and recordings in Cuba (Jerry Boys, Buena Vista Social Club) and Malibu (John Porter, The Smiths) and work with amazing musicians the world over. After seven albums, and with a clocking of music industry awards, record crowd numbers, festival headlining's, platinum record sales, and international festival appearances -- The Cat Empire has journeyed from Melbourne Jazz clubs to Letterman, to the sold-out World Tours and back home with dynamic musicianship and steadfast longevity. Away from the touring life, Felix has composed music for The Commonwealth Games, Award Winning short film Two Men, The Dream Festival, and the Australia Day Ceremonies, Darling Harbour.

His first solo album, Into the Rain, is a free flowing, dark, and intricate storytelling voyage, released 2011.
