After she was snatched by the owner prior to approaching the counter to pay. The owner chose to endanger her own life physically assaulting Latasha first in order to stop the potential "shoplifting". The fact of the matter is, Latasha was removing herself from the situation and leaving, yet Du argued her life was in danger when she shot her. Clearly, it isn't.

Self defense is when you're being hurt & you have no other choice and the person will not leave . In this case that was not self defense the child tried tried to leave and the woman stool shot her . Those who are saying the owner faced problems before could be right but the fact that this teen tried to walk away from this situation & still lost her life , shows that they couldn't have been in any danger . That was most definetly not self defense . Whoever that judge or lawyer was should be fired

the girl threw punches because the lady grabbed her forcefully, if someone accused you of stealing, hurled insults at you and then grabbed you you would fight her off!!! "defend herself" from what!?? a 15 year old girl walking AWAY from the incident?! you sir are very naive and ignorant

This incident was the trigger effect to the terror that this shop owner and her family faced unlike many other post here you actually have through read all the court documents and have some knowledge of the two parties backgrounds before you make an unbiased decision about what happened here. Even though I do not condemn the sentence nor the actions of this shop owner you have take into consideration the scenario in which this took place. R.I.P Ms. Harlins your death will no be forgotten
