Krishnamurti had previously stated in talks of previous years his concern of the Computer & Genetic Technology affecting the future of mankind. Our "conditioning" being the major factor in ignorance - preventing living a holistic life. But, rather a future of technologically controlled but "conditioned (programmed)" humanity, if we don't change.

This is an edit of the 3rd Talk, Madras, India, 1986.

In this, his very last Talk, he reaffirms this concern ....

... So, the computer is coming up in the world, not only in the factories, but also it's going to make your brains something different. Which is - you've heard of genetic engineering - oh god, don't you hear all these things? They're trying to, whether you like it or not, to change your whole behaviour. That is genetic engineering. They are trying to change your way of thinking. You understand what I'm saying?

So, genetic engineering and the computer, when the two meet together - they're going to presently, in a number of years - what are you? You understand what I'm asking, sir? What are you; as a human being what are you? Your brains are going to be altered. Your way of behaviour is going to be changed. Right? They may altogether remove fear, remove sorrow, remove all your gods. They're going to, sir, don't fool yourself. Because it all ends up either in war or in death. Right? So, this is what is happening in the world actually. Genetic engineering on the one side and computer on the other and when they meet, as they're inevitably going to meet, what are you as a human being?

  • ..so I am like a machine. How should I be instead?

  • @MindAsFocus : By Machine he implies "mechanical", "repetitive", "habitual" thought process almost like a computor. The mechanical (thought) process causes division and so conflict in psychological world, so in the physical world relationships etc. It is'nt about what one "should" be. But seeing this process and its destructiveness, so from that a spontaneous seeing, insight, is free from it. Then a possible inner freedom can come about. Thats how I would see it, anyway. Thanks.

  • When people bind themselves to the roles and expectations of others, they are being programmed. I do not have a gender nor a nationality. I act on my own accord. I define myself and do not let society do that for me.

Genetics and computers ARE coming together as we speak. I work in computer engineering and this field is going to explode. Krishnamurti is very wise.

  • The father computer can bring about a son computer which is better than the father. Would that be DELL? They make computers with computers.

  • Computers are like all means neutral in their nature, the intention of the user behind them can be understood as destructive or creative. Most people do not even realize how precious things like laptops can be if they are used with a true spiritual and psychological intention behind them. Nevertheless i see abuses of tools like these, by ego-pumping 'social networking' for instance, to make you convince yourself that you have thousands of electronic 'friends'... Pure illusions. Nice upload too!

  • @Edel99 To be able to see this truth instantly. Then, perhaps, we might refrain from violent action that comes from assumption. Just my thinking...

  • @FirstBookOfMike Perhaps, it's because we look for patterns. We need them so we can fall asleep again, take comfort in knowing the unknowable. Even if we lie to ourselves, saying to ourselves "I know the unknowable" makes us feel secure. I think one of his most important messages was that of observation. To have a mind that is sensitive, and is aware, that it's limited.

  • you're right man, people trust more a guy in a suit than a homeless like you said. personally guys in suits reminds me polititians, the people I less trust in this planet. and those who are consider themselves polititians are the mosto liers in the world. so before you judgje some from the outside, try to look on the inside, maube you'll have a surprise..
