Keep in mind that if you quit coffee but still smoke and drink alcohol, those addictions will aggravate and make you feel much worse, because caffeine boosts the metabolism to help purge the system of other poisons. It's a catch-22 situation and the only real solution is complete abstinence, which basically means pissing off all your friends or moving to an amish farm.

cheapest drink at the coffee shop,
i dont want the waitress to give me the dirty look when i order my food without ordering a drink to go with it.

yes i have the dependency, i have tried quitting 4 times but i havent been able to longer than 1 week.
I have used very small cups (half a normal mug) in the morning so that i limit the intake, but the need for it every morning is without fail.
when i do quit for the few days or so, i feel my energy and concentration lasts longer, my mood is better, and generally i work better longer rather than for a short period.

What I want to say is this: They are both addiction, and I want to help people with getting rid of their caffeine addiction.
I do not say that it is as bad as alcohol addiction, but it is another addiction that people can suffer from.
I hope you get my point, anyway thanks for your input.

Yes, I seriously listen to myself when I talk.
I do not say that alcohol and caffeine have the same effects in deaths of people, but they are both drugs as they are substances that the body gets used and eventually addicted to.
That to me is the defintion of a drug - something that people get addicted to, they can not go without. Why else do you think that about 90% of American adults drink their coffee every morning?

Saying "caffeine and alcohol are both drugs" is like saying "jaywalking and serial rape/murder are both crimes". Both statements can be defended with cold, hard logic and bulletproof arguments. But are they a fair assessment of the situation? No.
And if the rest is much the same, how many deaths by caffeine have you heard of? What about alcohol intoxication?
I don't mean to attack your integrity by insulting you, but seriously, do you listen to yourself when you talk?

Ok then by your standards driving while thirsty impairs your driving ability because you might be more impulsive trying to get to the fast food place faster. Driving during hot weather without A/C? You're completely and utterly impaired. I mean you should be arrested for DUI!
I'm starting PACD: people against caffeinated driving.
How many caffeine-addicted people have you heard of being on welfare because of it? Compare that to alcoholics.
You're comparing apples and oranges.
As far as I would tell, do not feel bad about consuming like really small amounts of caffeine, that is not the problem. I mean, you still want to be able to eat a bit of chocolate or so, but the problem comes when you really NEED it - you know, dependency...that is when it sucks.
I know how under stress caffeine put me, but you realize that to the biggest part only after you have quitted and feel much better. Feel free to post more if you have any questions or so. Good luck!
