To download an mp3 file of the accompaniment, go to www.steveparkhornmusic.net. This is a great encore or final piece for a recital. It's not too difficult (the high C at the end is optional, as is the low Ab in the slow section). Subscribe! I will be adding more solos on a regular basis. I teach horn at a University and my goal is to create a video library of some of the best horn solos for my students and others. Also let me know if there is something you would like me to record. If you would like an mp3 file of the accompaniment, send me your email address and I will send you the file.

  • I couldn't help but notice that you have the mouthpiece offset to one side rather than centered. I seem to remember that Allan Dean used to offset his trumpet mouthpiece as well. Is there a particular reason that some people play that way?

I play 3rd horn in a symphonic band. I have played off and on for over 40 years, but I am just an amateur who plays for the enjoyment.

  • The center of my lips is very soft. I get an airy tone and my high register disappears when I play in the center. Playing off to the side a little solves these problems for me.

  • So, do you play all of your own piano stuff as well?

  • The piano sounds are real, but the piano is run by a computer program. I create the accompaniment in advance and then play along with it for the videos.

  • The horn's actually a bass, baritone, tenor and alto of the brass family if you don't mind at all.
