You said Marin County is quite dry. Yes, but only in Summer/early Fall. Winters here are wet and colder than San Francisco, but not as cold as Sonoma/Napa. Thackrey lives in Bolinas, right on the ocean in Marin, so summer temps there are lower than Sonoma/Napa, and winter lows are also milder. Some of his wines take up to 90 minutes to open up in a glass, so judging a tasting as soon as the bottle is opened is incomplete. Thackrey himself has said some of his wines are better after 1 day open.
