Manifest Destiny from "1994" the Musical. Sung on Fourth of July by the anthropologist character Marnie, in protest of "genocide from sea to shining sea." Music and lyrics by Clark Ford, copyright 2011. Erica Fuchs, Alto.
Lyrics: We believe this land was meant for us. With God on our side its obvious. Natives should get out of the way, white Europeans are here to stay. Chorus: We're the best, better than the rest, passing every test of righteousness. We're the best, our life has been blessed, since we said yes, to conquest. We're the Best. We believe in justice truth and right, so why are natives putting up a fight? We need land for farms and industry, civilized cities not teepees. (Chorus) Why are people so upset now? Isn't this exactly what God willed? Didn't he give this land to us? Manifest Destiny fulfilled! (Chorus).
