Part 4 (End)
This will be one of the last videos I'll be uploading to this channel.
The documentary hypothesis is easily as widely accepted among theologians as the theory of evolution is among biologists or the theory of relativity is among cosmologists. It provides the answers for many of the more troubling aspects of the Old Testament such as the doublets, triplets, out of sync timelines and events, discrepancies over numbers and years etc. Contrary to what Christian fundamentalists claim, it actually makes the bible much more sensible while lessoning your grip on its small (and often incorrect ) details and increasing your grip on the Savior.
I highly recommend Richard Elliott Friedman's now classic book on the subject--"Who Wrote the Bible".

@wolfpax22 "It would be nice to do some archaeological digs around Jerusalem and Schechem to see if any text or text fragments of J and E might be found in their pre-compliation form"
Survival of documents will only occur in a very limited number of circumstances, usually in very dry contexts. Also, punching holes in ancient sites on the off-chance of finding certain artefacts would be treasure hunting, not archaeology

Wonderful closing thoughts. Big picture is always what's important. Forget the details.
Personally, I'm still a fundamentalist even after seeing all the discrepencies. This is because I have learned to accept that direct contradictions are not necessarily false. Makes no sense to the mind or to reason, but who says those 2 things are flawless? I think they're the best tools we have for sure, and I wouldn't know what else to use honestly. If God's playing mind games, I kinda like it.

It would be nice to do some archaeological digs around Jerusalem and Schechem to see if any text or text fragments of J and E might be found in their pre-compliation form. That would be a great find, though I can see how it would be almost impossible given the time. :( Also, something we do have is the Samaritan Torah. The Samaritans are a dying sect descended from Israelites (the north) rather than Judah. I know their Torah differs significantly from what we have in the Bible and is available.

@wolfpax22 That's interesting. I didn't know (or at least I don't remember) about the Samaritan Torah. I'll check into it. I think it's interesting that Christ didn't give us any hints as to which, if any, sect of Judaism he belonged to or grew-up in. It always seemed to me that he was fighting against any, and every, kind of Jewish fundamentalism during his time on Earth. He was an equal opportunity arguer.

I am not a believer but I found this series both informative and eloquent. It also gives me a little insight into how someone can understand that the bible is not perfect and still maintain their faith.

You're comments are interesting, but I prefer Blake's suggestion to examine the "minute particulars".

This isn't a book--it's a video, and its 3-parts have already taken up more time than your typical Youtuber can handle. There are no facts here that are particularly refutable. The only disputable things are comments relating to personal opinion, and there weren't that many of those really.
You also might want to check out a copy of "Why Mrs. Blake Cried".
