  • As a kid in the 50s, I loved Dolph Schayes. He was a great player and somehow, I knew he was a great guy, too. I remember a game on TV when he passed the ball and accidentally threw it right into the back of a referee's head! He immediately started apologizing but the ref called a foul on him anyway. I remember thinking "Doesn't that ref know Dolph Schayes is a really nice guy? He'd never throw the ball at a ref on purpose!" 50+ years ago . . . it's funny the things that you remember.

  • what's a dick-ade?

  • A large number of NBA players during its first few seasons were Jewish.

  • But really, how many Jewish basketball players are there?

  • I met him a couple years back...a great guy...he owns an apartment complex in Syracuse

  • My Grand fathers Favorite too. the Greatest Jewish Basketball player that ever lived.

  • Dolph Schayes was the first modern pro forward. At 6'8" he could play inside and rebound, yet had a great perimeter shot and could take his man off the dribble.

People can debate "best" all day long, but "first" is a unique honor for a special few.

  • Dolph is a champion human being. Big man, big talent, big heart.

  • Besides being a great player, one of the greatest of all-time, Dolph is a mensch of a person; a wonderful human being.

  • I got to see Dolph many times in my hometown of Syracuse. Dolph, Al Cervi & Billy Gabor were

my favorites. They were all great players.
