MONTEREY, Calif. Coxswains and boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Monterey operate two 47-foot motor lifeboats Jan. 13, 2009, in 10 to 13-foot swells.

As a heavy-weather station, crews may operate rescue boats in up to 30-foot swells. Station members respond to a variety of maritime emergencies throughout the year, with an area of operation spanning more than 200 miles.
