Lenovo x120e, AMD E-350 CPU, 4GB memory, OCZ Vertex 2 Extended 80GB SSD, Linux Mint 11, 64bit, DVD edition.

Changes I've made: auto login, auto wifi connect, Compiz, DropBox and Synergy installed. Rest is pretty much stock LM11 x64 DVD.

Linux Mint 11 detected the wifi, bluetooth, GPU (install proprietary driver window appeared on first boot) and function keys by default. I remember LM10 did not and had to be tweaked to get it to detect those.

I do however notice the Bluetooh icon always showing BT active on startup. I disable it each startup but it's on again next boot. =/

  • Have you tried Ubuntu 11.10 with Unity interface ? If not, does Mint runs smooth in graphical effects on your APU? As i`ve seen here it kinda runs great. Can you tell me more ?

  • @iulimotor

I haven't tried Unity on it yet. I tried Mint 12 w/ Gnome3 yesterday. At first there were some bugs after installing the GPU drivers, transparency was bright pink and text was messed up. But after some restarts it got working. I ended up rolling back to Mint11 w/ Gnome2, I didn't like the Gnome3 experience. I'll give it a try again in 6 months.

The APU seems to run great under Mint11 with various Compiz settings enabled. Good FPS during animations and the such.

yea i installed mint 12 yesterday, really enjoyed it came from ubuntu, but after the drivers were installed the texted was messed up. what did u do just keep restarting? and it just fixed itself?

  • @eVoRomS

I kept having issues with Mint12's new gnome UI, the text was jagged with lines missing and it was crashing. I ended up returning to Mint 11 for the old UI and it's been working alright since. I'll try Mint again in 13, for now I'm avoiding 12.

  • Installation of Mint on my x120e always fails near the end (Grub2 install?). Do you have any tips for completing a Mint installation on this machine? Thanks.

  • @casfindad

    I do not.

  • @iulimotor I'm running this computer with the unity interface and everything worked beautifully.

  • Hi,

I have the exact same setup except mine is a 60GB Vertex 2. I run into the same problem every time, "No Operating System Found". I used to have Windows 7 Installed on it. Do you happen to have a walk through I can follow?

    Thanks

  • For some reason using Crunchbang Linux I can't seem to detect my wifi at all. In fact I can't even install wifi drivers for the wifi in it because it says it doesn't detect my wifi card.

I know they are wrong though, considering I'm posting this from windows 7 on the same machine. It's sad, because this thing is fucking amazing, however I can't, for the sake of battery life, use a distro like Mint or Ubuntu

It's like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place =\ such is linux

  • Nice video, thanks! Is that vanilla mint11 or debian? Have you tried to connect a secondary monitor or tv via hdmi?
