Tout ce que l'on sait de Mahmoud Ahmed (et de la musique éthiopienne en général) s'est longtemps limité au disque cultre Erè mèla mèla (Ethiopiques 7 CD 829802) enregistré en 1975 mais publié pour la première fois en Europe en 1986. Premier album publié par Mahmoud Ahmed, Almaz ("Almaz men eda nèw"), enregistré deux ans avant Erè mèla mèla apporte aujourd'hui quelques nouveaux arguments musicaux sur le talent d'un des plus grands artistes éthiopiens de ces trente-cinq dernières années.
For many years, everything we knew about Mahmoud Ahmed (and Ethiopian music in general) was limited to the cult album Erè mèla mèla, recorded in 1975 but released for the first time in Europe in 1986.
Mahmoud's first Lp Almaz ("Almaz men eda nèw"), recorded two years before Erè mèla mèla, now bears witness to the talent of one of the greatest Ethiopian artists of the past 35 years.
