I just verified that my total energy system is leak free but it still isn't acting correctly. Does anyone have any ideas of what is going on with the stick thermal tests I did? This was taken at 9:30 in the morning in as still of air as I could find. It seems like the varios are working well at the beginning of a pull up but then lag and show a stick thermal a few seconds later. Do you think the total energy system is working at all? This is an ASW20B glider flying out of Logan Utah. The video camera is a Contour+. Pilot is Bruno Vassel IV, B4.

  • Bruno...did you get your TE problem fixed? If so, what did you find? Or, did you just sell the glider to solve the problem? ;)

  • @alstonbk Sold it... :)

  • Thanks so much for all the responses. I agree with many of you that it seems like a restricted tube somehow because I have tested for leaks and it is air tight. It works but just 3 seconds behind reality. Will keep working on it and let you know what it turns out to be. Thanks again. Bruno - B4

  • Hi Bruno, no comment on this video, but congrats on your 1,000 point day at the 15 meter nats! Way to go! Take good care of Tobin and his Jantar at your gliderport. I've got a couple of Contours, also. Lee from Air Sailing

  • @Cobraseven007 Thanks so much for the congrats. It was extremely fun to fly my first Nationals and really enjoyed meeting all the top pilots. Will take good care of Tobin.

  • If you've more than one vario, the drifts impairs each other . Try to work without any equalizing tanks in the pipe-system wich is involved in the total energy system..

See this - sorry it's in german.

  • It's known as stick lift, and as you will have found out it's almost impossible to fly with. It happened to one of my dad's gliders, he found that there was water in the TE system, but the problem was solved after he used a vacuum cleaner through the pipes. This was a drastic measure, it may will be fixed by just letting the glider "air out" in the trailer for a few days. I'd definitely speak to somebody at your airfield with knowledge on instrumentation, they should be able to help you fix it.

  • set your electrical compensation (tek) to 0%, see what changes...

  • Hi Bruno, looks like the same effect I had when the connection of my TE tube was clogged. (the metal part that sticks out of the fintail)

There appeared to be some grease inside. Cleaned it up wit a cotton-stick and the problem was solved.

  • Glad to see there is no more cold weather, here in texas its 112 degres and the wind ads 5 more degres so like 117..... and no clouds
