From 1999 through 2007 the AmericasCHILD RELAY Program was taught as a curriculum in the Durham Public School system at Omuteko Gwamaziima Charter School. These students are 1st graders and also students from my "Advanced Videography Students" (3rd to 8th grade) who produced and broadcast THEIR OWN WEEKLY TV SHOW ON BOTH Durham Community Access TV and Chapel Hill's the People's Channel. "OMUTEKO TV" won the top award (The Burke Award) in 2006 for Youth Programming. CONGRATULATIONS TO MY CHILDREN/STUDENTS of 2007--MY LAST YEAR TEACHING IN A SCHOOL SYSTEM. The MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO IMPLEMENT AND MAXIMIZE THE IMPACT OF THE AmericasCHILD RELAY program is in an year round "After School" format. This is the format that proved most effective in Greensboro, Charles County, Maryland and I will implement in Mississippi and New Orleans. The pictures of the young man on the end of this video, represents one of my "personal" tragedies as his father was one of the greatest men I had ever met and did much to enhance the development of thousands of students over a 25 plus year period as a professor at NCCU. He helped me bring AmericasCHILD RELAY to Durham and shared the video of his, then 5 year old son with me, asking me to review it and assess his potential (his son was 12-13 at the time) to participate in the RELAY Program. Sadly this great man, Professor Laurence Lovette, Sr. passed away on Thanksgiving evening of 2004 and we never got a chance to involve his son in our program. The son, WHO at the age of 5 DOCUMENTED HIS FAMILY HISTORY (did great video and directing work); chose instead to turn to a life of crime. R.I.P. Professor Lovette. Thank you for all your help and support!

  • Absolutely enjoyed, quite impressive and inspiring. *You've planted the seed of success by building confidence alone; great work Ted. (You will be Blessed for the dedication and love you bestowed upon these youth; thank you!)

  • This is wonderful. I think you and the others are doing a fantastic job with these young people. Even though there have been hardships along the way, I'm sure some positive influences were made.

  • Great job with kids! Love it..Not only are these great learned moments, they serve as great reminisces for these kids and loved ones to venture down memory lane as a static blimp in time! Thanks for sharing Ted..One Love!
