Read the full experiment at http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/e... Voltaic batteries of all shapes and sizes are objects that convert chemical energy into electrical energy. You probably use batteries to power your cell phone, iPod, or any number of wireless gadgets. But did you know that you can actually use chemical energy stored within a lemon to power a small LED light? It's true, and we'll show you exactly how in the Fruit-Power Battery experiment.

Actually, it takes 3V to run an LED. Each lemon produces about 0.5-0.9V but very very small amperage so they used 4 lemons. You need to take the current in the equation as well, because with a transformer I can take a 9V and make it 300V, but it will put out just a few mAh.
