CNN's "expert" is an idiot. Heron is NOT the size of an airliner.... 737's wingspan is more than double that of Heron, and the 737 has a max takeoff weight almost 62 times more than the Heron. Yes, it might reach Iran, but let's get some facts right CNN instead of just stirring the pot.

Effin' Iraq was able to fight a stalemate war for 10 years against Iran. It took the United States weeks to destroy essentially the entire Iraqi army.
Israel is the most powerful force in the middle east. It has proven that time over time. I mean, even a sneak attack on the holiest day in the Jewish faith by multiple nations failed to destroy Israel.

Firebees were used for Reconnaissance too. Heck, they were used as recent as the invasion of iraq (dropping flares i think). But i'm just saying, as far as a big UAV goes, that Heron is beat. Firebees are no longer in service though, so i guess it dont really matter.

@peepeevagi First of all Firebee are target drone nothing comparable to Global Hawk/Heron TP role. Firebee superior to Heron TP only by service ceiling and speed, they several generation apart.

I dont know about that, we were using Firebee drones in vietnam long before these fancy schmancy UAV's of today. The only thing these modern ones beat it in is duration (Firebees used a jet engine) and smaller size.
I guess you're right though, develop by the need, not adapt with what you got. Especially when it comes to stuff like UAVs.

@peepeevagi No, the only known competitor to Heron TP in size/payload/duration/altitude is the mighty Global Hawk.
The tendency is to develop by the need, the is need for micro UAV just like for Giants like Heron TP and Global Hawk.
