ASK QUESTIONS/DEMAND ANSWERS CANADA!
Ice cream and hot dog sales must have been through the roof at the legislature grounds yesterday afternoon, thanks to Edmontons annual 4-20 celebrations.
For over two decades, like-minded pot smokers have gathered in the park below the provincial building to enjoy a smoke and raise awareness about a drug that most people at the event consider to be harmless.
An Angus Reid poll said the majority of Canadians are in favour of legalization and decriminalization (of marijuana) but the government wont put it on a ballot, said Todd, a member of Edmonton 420 who didnt want his last name used.
Its safer than liquor and even normal tap water has killed more people than marijuana and yet marijuana has more restrictions.
Thousands of people, mostly young high school and college-aged kids, sat in small circles and passed around joints, pipes and bongs, filling the air around the legislature with the scent of weed.
Two provincial sheriffs kept their eyes on the peaceful gathering; one of them said they didnt anticipate prosecuting anyone, unless they saw someone consuming alcohol.
Theres no real harassment, Todd said. You get 2,000 people together and start arresting them, whats going to happen?
If someone were to be prosecuted for smoking marijuana, Todd suggested keeping quiet.
Dont plead guilty, keep your mouth shut and theres not a whole lot they can do, he said.
Ryjin Vander Hoek took in the celebrations yesterday and helped out in the hot-dog tent.
It really instills a lot of confidence in members of the community because they see that were able to congregate and it doesnt get crazy, it doesnt get violent, and most importantly, law enforcement leaves us alone, Vander Hoek said.
It creates a strong impact.
The 4-20 celebrations started at about noon and ran into the evening.

EDMONTON 9/11 PSA
This is the second time in 3 years where I found myself on stage at the Alberta Legislature: The first time was in September 11th. 2007 at a labour rally where hundreds were on hand to hear my 5 minute rant on 9/11 truth and justice.... when I awoke yesterday I had no idea I would be standing on a stage in front of a few thousand giving a similar public service announcement about the lies and crimes of 9/11... there I was at 4:14 on a beautiful sunny Alberta afternoon...wow what a buzz literally!
Love and RESPECT TO YOU ALWAYS THE POETRY MAN Ryjin V! and to DJ Kraeden who said it best from the heart...Adam the man and my pal who always hangs my 9/11 posters at JUPITERS no matter how bad they sometimes look... peace to all and the brother and sister activists on 420!
