Just a simple fix I came up with the end the factory built in leak on the drive side of a 4 speed transmission.

Thanks to TBear for the T shirt.

Here's the link to the drawing in .pdf format. Its not to scale but its pretty straight forward.

Here's the O-rings I got from McMaster Carr.

  • Big kudos for this video. Did this to my 80 wide glide. No more leak. Had to polish the splines on the main drive gear to keep the sharp edges from cutting the o-ring. I cut the first two. Good thing they send you 25. Once again thanks.

  • @80bandit Thanks. I think I should include info on getting it past the splines safely.

  • I didn't catch the right o ring size could you elaborate on that please.

    Thanks,

    Greg

  • @gmanm1 Greg, There's a link under the video to a drawing of the O ring grove with the O ring part number. The o ring is a Viton 2-029 and the McMaster Carr part # is 9464K291

  • I tried this and when putting it bacck together it was so tight I had to use a dead blow to tap it on. After it was over the threaded area it slipped on a bit easier. Once it was all the way in I noticed little eye lash sized pieces of the oring in the threads. I assume this is not normal, is something not right? thanks

  • @scottrdhse Scott, For some reason you post as flagged as spam.. I unflagged it. If you needed to use a dead blow something is wrong. As you see in the video it should just push on with a little resistance. The little shavings indicate the O-ring is damaged. Did you lubricate it before you installed it?

If you can could you send me some pictures of the spacer O-ring grove and the O-ring?

  • @lindo745 Yes,unless you have a new drive gear there is more than likely going to be some sharp edges from normal wear.

  • Thank you

  • Thanks for the video :)

  • Thanks, I will do that. Might be a while but again thanks for your help
