Roberto Clemente, the greatest right fielder of all time, records his 3000th hit on September 30, 1972---it would be his last regular season hit. Sadly, three months later, Clemente died in a tragic crash of a cargo plane carrying relief supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua on December 31, 1972.

Here we have celebrities and athletes dying of drug overdoses, wrecking their Porches, getting shot at night clubs, getting involved with gang battles, ect. He died delivering supplies to Earthquake victims. There's no such thing as a right way to go, but he at least died with honor.

Speaking of Mr. Ken Singleton, I want to wish him and his family lots of good health and happiness. He really was always a true gentleman. They still talk about what a great player he was in Pto. Rico, they still love him overthere. He earned that.

He gave me clinics at the Hiram Bithorn stadium in Puerto Rico when I was playing little league, he was always what we call nowadays.."real". These clinics attracted us to the stadium like it was Jesus Christ teaching us! I met many good players with Roberto during this era.. like Ken Singleton Sr., who played for Santurce, and Boog Powell once hit a homer so far they never found the ball! Great men, great times!

As long as the game is played, he will be remembered. I think RCW would be ok with that.
