From the LWT series End of Part One. Just the start and end titles of this sketch here, as they were by far the funniest bits.

Love the lyrics of the end theme tune: 'It's peak time on which all the ratings hinge, so let's write a song to make you cringe. 25 million viewers who tune in each week can be wrong, despite the song, which gets up our noses: the lines don't scan and it's a job to make the words fit the meter, but luckily we can...'

Not the Nine O'clock News ripped off several ideas from End of Part One, including the Nationwide duck that does nothing.

Interesting to see this from 25 years later and compare it to the culture of humiliation that we have on TV now.

  • Is the brief 'Are You Being Stereotyped' spoof on the DVD? Maybe not, for the same reason. Annoying to buy the DVD thinking you are getting the whole series when in fact bits have been chopped out!

  • The series was a bit patchy. But some good ideas and some real gems. Must have had a huge budget too.

  • What sketch was he/she in?

  • I find this more naive and cringe-worthy than anything Larry Grayson ever did. Still, as you say, interesting to see.

  • Interestingly the director of this Geoffrey Sax went on to direct The New Statesman and the 1996 Doctor Who TV Movie in the States featuring Paul McGann

  • Not funny.

  • 0;58 is that marlene from only fools and horses?

  • If they change just a few of the lyrics then they have a new jingle to play at Mecca Bingo (anyone whose worked there will know what I mean)

  • With the state of British television today this would have the ability to be a massive hit if remade for today's audiences.

However, the main downside is that when this was made, by LWT, ITV was multiple franchises. I can't see ITV Plc willingly send itself up, nor would it want to be seen to attack anyone else as low brow rubbish for fear of being pot-kettle black'd...

  • Yes he's dressed as a schoolboy at the school gates. I think it's just before the 'da da da' sketch with the reporter.

  • not on dvd as its so naughty by todays standards and the PC brigade wud kick up a storm

  • Yes, It was Denise Coffey but she wasnt playing a headmaster I think, I think Denise was playing a teacher. Will get back to you on that!
