My perspective: the Canadian environment is too important to play politics with; Stephen Harper's government in ignoring Kyoto should be brought down.

  • What are the costs of meeting Kyoto and what is the benefit of meeting Kyoto? Even if we paid 30 billion to Russia and could claim we "met" our targets and Kyoto, GHGs would still go up exponentially because of the non-signatory countries (China, India, the US)You would have us cripple our economy so we can save face with the Swiss and in doing so we wouldnt change a thing in terms of reducing global GHGs.

  • Either we act, and those industries that are environment-friendly benefit and non-signatory countries increase ghgs; or we don't act, environment-friendly countries get shafted, and non-signatory countries increase ghgs. It's pretty clear we should and lose a little, then not act, and lose a lot.

  • European Countries that have reduced their GHG that belong to Kyoto and will meet 2008 goals: France, UK, Luxembourg, Sweden, UK, Greece.

  • Ohhhhh.....little grasshopper.

When you have to earn a pay cheque...talk to us again!

(Not just following the wild-eyed socialist weirdos on their communist bent for Kyoto.)

    Hope I clarified for you!

  • I think you're forgetting that none of those countries use natural resources as their main source of revenue. Moreover, the only reason why most of Europe CAN meet Kyoto is because the USSR collapsed, leading to most of their industries to flop and dropping GHG's altogether.

This came out of a lecutre I attended in 2007 by a Prof. Sean Marshall from the University of Calgary, talking about the progress on Kyoto. Unless you want Canada to flop the way USSR did, please get your facts straight.

  • Hmmmm...I'm just wondering...Did the people who voted for the NDP in the last election....did they vote to see Mr. Dion become prime minister? In that case, why didn't the NDP voters simply vote Liberal in the last election? The NDP voters SHOULD HAVE voted for Mr. Dion, and then we would have avoided this whole current coalition issue, right?

See what I mean? TRUE LEFTIST HYPOCRISY!!

  • GO LIBERALS

  • fuck the liberals guns rule

  • Also, the Conservatives are the only party and only government to set mandatory GHG Emission targets on Canadian industry.

You'll recall that the Liberals passed a motion calling on the government to meet our targets within the Kyoto timeline. Perhaps they can pass a motion calling on the gov't to end all traffic accidents and find a cure for cancer in the next two weeks.

  • So its quite obvious that your leader,Dion cares more about votes than the environment, considering the throne speech was just passed. But too be fair the conservatives would of done the same, its all a power struggle...Canada needs reform..

  • Nice video,

Have patience. Dion isn't going anywhere. Kyoto isn't dead.
