Actually it was probably a gear up malfunction. They can clearly ear the warning system.

According to the accident report, the PIC (guessing the instructor), admitted that they simply forgot the gear.

@Pvjinflight Why did the pilot slam his hand on the dashboard then? He seemed surprised and so did the guy on the right. And if they knew they would be doing a gear up landing, don't you think they'd be a little more jumpy?

I think it was more of a mistake than a malfunction....

Some years back, I was on an ambulance crew responding along with the fire department to a landing gear malfunction emergency landing done in a Lake Renegade (engine in a pod above the fuselage) during an aircraft delivery flight.

The pilot elected to land in the infield grass along the runway, and since the grass and dirt were pretty soft, there was very, very little damage done. Amazing job!
