Mirrors edge - 8600gts graphics

Mirrors edge has most realistic graphics i have ever seen.

AMD 64 3500+
1GB Ram
Nvidia 8600gts

Settings: Textures high and post-processing highest , 1280x1024 , AA 16x , FPS 30 - 40
If textures medium and post-processing medium then FPS 50-60.

And difference between post-processing settings has most difference in visuals, in texture settings only lowest setting is most noticable.
--High and Highest has so little difference that you dont even notice it.
--Medium is really good looking too.
--low textures start to blur out little bit but are still decent looking
--in lowest textures are really blurred

post-processing high and highest add all kind of lighting and particle effects like REALLY realistic water reflections in walls and also more blur and depth effects.
Dont remember right now if medium has that water reflection but low and lowest doesnt have any of those and no smoke and stuff like that.

I believe a majority of the textures in ME are 2048 x 2048 pixels, which is why it looks so crisp and realistic, despite the strange art style it has (which is quite possibly the prettiest I've seen). Mirrors Edge is definitely a very realistic looking game, but mainly because of this and physx. However, it's a shame that Physx lags like crazy 99% of the time in Mirrors Edge. A DAMN shame.

The one thing I love the most about Mirrors Edge is the pipes. The pipes are so cool to stare at.

and the bump maps are also very well done they are not overdone like in some games.

AND this is why I've played PC all my life. It looks WAY better and it doesn't take 2000$ to make a nice gaming rig. Buy a cheap 600$ pc (or use the old one you have), buy an Nvidea 9800gt for 100 dollars and a 500 watt power supply and have a processor of at least 2.3 gghz and you'll do fine.

Yep! my pc is over 5 years old and only thing i have changed is the graphic card.

@ZeroG004 the shitty thing is. that the ps3 can do much better, i'm not a hater, but xbox is the reason ps3 have to do it with lower graphics.. thats why ps3 exclusive games look way better than a game that is for ps3 and xbox. ps3 can get really close to a pc, but i guess its harder to make a game for ps3 than a pc

I always liked mirrors edge, it's just a beautiful game.

I runs well because it has stupidly high res textures but fairly simply models (because of the buildings there are tonnes of flat faces which don't require many polygons). High textures aren't really that demanding on a computer but polycount really does make a difference to performance. Hence why mirrors edge runs so nicely for what it is. Also runs on unreal 3 which probably helps.

Then there's also the orgasmic radiant lighting...

@capatais777 Wow, Crysis fanboy much? You do realize that mirror's edge is a few years old, and that crysis' graphics aren't that much better... I doubt you've even played mirror's edge. And while I'm at it, Crysis isn't "better" because it has better graphics (not that I'm saying it is better, I've never played it so I can't say)

Gameplay is what's important, graphics just make it seem complete, and help give depth and mood.
