The Diodes formed in October 1976, opened Toronto's first punk club the Crash 'n' burn in May 1977, became the first Canadian punk band to get a major record deal in August 1977, released their first album in October 1977 and had a couple of college radio hits in 1978. Fastforward 30 years to Sneaky Dee's in Toronto June 9, 2007: all original members reunite (with Ryder Mackay, Ian's son, on keyboards) and perform one of their best known songs. This clip includes interview footage with Cheetah Chrome from the Dead Boys.

  • Great performance. Just like the record, keyboards and all.

    What more do you want????

Can't wait for the gig in Rome!

One thing though, In the "we were punk first" roundup, aren't you forgetting The Ugly? I always thought they pre-dated The Viletones.

Not that anyone cares, mind you.

  • The Ugly were around (ie. were rehearsing) when the Diodes had the Crash 'n' Burn, but they only played their first show after the Crash 'n' Burn closed down. That's probably why Paul didn't mention them.

  • It's legal in Toronto for women to drum topless.

  • Why do they all pretend they never heard of The Ugly, who could blow these guys off the stage???

  • if that's a chick she's awfully hairy!

  • I saw these geezers at the BLACK SWAN in Ottawa, spring 197-fucking-8. At the time I thought, blimey! These guys can`t even play their instruments, still... I tapped my toes. I noticed they had sucked in just about every rock slut in the joint, so, to be fair, they must have had something, but it sure wasn`t chops.

  • those diodes are after so many years better than ever .

Best songs china doll--- cover red rubber ball--..

  • haha i noticed those boobs

  • History that rocks!

  • The old lady on drums is topless. Radical.

  • yay Crash n Burn Club!

  • they still sound pretty cool!
