I think you should leave the loft cover open and he can discover a whole new world up there. My tom cat spends many a happy hour in mine and he catches the occassional mouse too, he loves it!! Nice pole and pussy!

I bought a post at Meijer that was carpeted. It had platforms every foot and a half or so and he would not touch it. I removed the platforms and put it back together as one big post and he loved it. He ripped all the carpet off in about 3 months, so then I stripped it and resurfaced it with rope. In the end it looks nothing like it did when i bought it.
