A few months ago my dog got a thing that I found out from google searching was called "Cherry Eye". At first all that I could find was countless people talking about having their dogs operated on. Then one lady said that a gentle massage with lubricate could fix this. So I tried it and it worked within seconds! Today this happened again so I thought i'd film the easy process incase anyone else came across this problem with a dog. I'm not sure if eventually she will need an operation or not but this seems to work so easily that we will play it by ear. Anyway, the lubricated eye drops I used were Refresh which have no preservatives and come in hand single dose little tubes. Good because with other eye drops after opening you have to throw them after 28 days.

  • will this work for long term cherry eyes

  • From Registered Vet Tech: Any sterile eye drop (NEW) for dry eyes that doesn't have cortisone in it will work. Refresh, GenTeal, - or the eye ointments for "severe" dry eye. will work. You don't need something special, or for animals. Just make sure it's new, so you know it's sterile. Don't use Visine - that "gets the red out" or allergy eye drops, they irritate the eye and won't work for long. Just use anything for DRY EYES.

  • Few things: I'm a Reg Vet Tech. In school we were told is that surgery is the only answer. True; certain "flat faced" dogs (Boston's) r prone to "Cherry" - and do need a surg that tucks the 3rd eyelid into place - not "cuts it out". DONT LET A VET DO THAT! My older Corgi got up today with a small one and I can't afford surg so I looked at the net and found this. AND IT"S WORKING! Thank You! NOTE: Corgi had a bath yesterday by my young son, and I wonder if that might have caused it.

  • @tiffyj85 lol

  • We have two 6 month old cocker spaniels (a chocolate and a black), and I just noticed that the chocoalate had a buldge in his left eye. I assumed it might be cherry eye because his mom had it when we picked them up. I didn't have any lubricant so I just massaged it for a minute, and actually did his other eye to be say. It worked! Thank you so much!!! On top of the expense it doesn't look very nice and I'm sure it's painful. I'll let you know if it comes back.

  • The pup's like: Aw.. Mom do we have to do this.. Come on mom.. I wanna go play.. Eh.. Stop it mom..

  • Would " Clear eye" work for dogs too?

  • My Oreo got cherry eyes today, can i use Refresh (contacts) moisture drops for dry eyes?

  • can you tell me how exactly to massage it? i been trying for a long time i guess im doing it wrong. It seems like im moving her eyes out of place. Their buldging and super red

  • Oh you listen to your hubby as much as I listen to mine!!! From my Cherry Eye popping back in experience... nothing more is needed. If it doesn't hold just massage it again. The first time I did it it held for months. Then the next time in held for around a year. Guess every dog is different though. If it keeps popping out every day i'd say Vet but what's the use of spending the cash and possibly putting your dog though a traumatic operation if it doesn't need one! :) so happy for you!
