About Finnish Hot Rod Association (FHRA)
Finnish Hot Rod Association was founded in 1972. It is the parent organization for other Hot Rod and Drag Race associations in Finland. FHRA is the sanctioning body of Drag Racing in Finland and also a member of Finnish ASN, AKK Motorsports. FHRA nominates the Finnish representative in FIA Drag Racing committee. FHRA has about 2.000 members and over 50 member clubs. The member clubs have over 10.000 members. There are over 250.000 spectators and contestants visiting the events that are organized by FHRA each year.
The majority of the members have hot rodding as their hobby. These people assemble to cruising events in allover Finland. Bigger meetings called picnic belong to the offering as well. Picnics are cruising meetings where people spend whole weekend to have fun by fellow hot rodders. There are also special Swap Meets where the people can buy and sell second hand car parts (and NOS), and other cruising related things.
FHRA organizes every Eastern an FHRA American Car Show in Helsinki. The show lasts the whole Eastern and it is the biggest custom car show in Scandinavia. Year (2010) over 70.000 visitors came to the show. All kinds of custom vehicles were at display: hot rods, customs, muscle cars, tuning cars, vintage cars, drag racing cars, sports cars and motorcycles. Next FHRA American Car Show will be the 34th annual show.
FHRA organizes several Drag Race events each summer. Today Drag Racing is one of the most popular motor sports in Finland and tens of thousands of spectators visit the races every year. The top race in Finland is FIA European Championship series. This race is organized at the beginning of July. FHRA is also a member of Nordic Drag Racing Series (NDRS), which is Scandinavian wide race series and biggest Drag Racing series outside USA.
For street drivers FHRA organizes test days where you can test your car's performance. These events are informal sessions and racing is not the point but learning the sports and having fun.
FHRA invests in the future by organizing events for junior members, too. These events are get-togethers, training sessions, club evenings and as the biggest of all Junior Drag Racing events. FHRA was the first in Europe to introduce Junior Dragsters and Junior Bikes.
The future of FHRA looks very bright. First junior drivers have grown into the sports and started to drive more powerful cars. And they seem to be winning right from the beginning! Tuning as modern customizing is a hit today all over the world and also in Finland. This makes FHRA even stronger than it was yesterday.
Hienoa... Upeaa :)
