Synopsis: Accused of treason, Dr. Jose P. Rizal awaits trial and meets with his colonial government-appointed counsel, Luis Taviel de Andrade. The two build the case and arguments for the defense as significant events in the central figure's life prior to his incarceration unfold. Upon hearing Rizal's life story, Taviel begins to realize that the accused not just is innocent but exhibits in fact all the qualities of an extraordinary man. When the mock trial unreels, Taviel is all set to act as the prime advocate for his client as Rizal himself is about to give an earth-moving speech to defend his honor and address his countrymen. Meanwhile, the Spanish authorities have worked out the vast political machinery to ensure a guilty verdict. A revolution waits in the wings.

  • Rizal must be turning in his grave. Note the similarities between colonial and present-day Philippines

    Spanish government = Philippine government

    guardia civil = Philippine National Police

    frailes = corrupt politicians

    encomienda = withholding tax, income tax, value-added tax, all kinds of "tax" (atay oi!)

    indios = rank-and-file employees

    polo y servicio = minimum wage jobs

    1890's desaparecidos =2008's desaparecidos

    it seems our heroes have all died in vain

  • we should totally have more historical films and not cheap love stories, which happen to have the same freakin' story line all the time! not to mention the SAME actors as well!

see all

  • i like if he didnt do anything look us now ugly if spain is there where nice and hot

  • happy birthday!

  • Jose Rizal was a thinker not a fighter... 4 u who only watch nd base your facts on d intrnet try reading wikipedia.. Philippines hs mny heroes dring d revolution and that includes Andres Bonifacio.

    Jose Rizal did nt wnt to participate dirctly to the Katipunan bcoz he knew it wasn't the right time to solve things with violence, but he did gave them support by giving them advice on how to improve the Katipunan.

    Andres Bonifacio is more like Superman

    Jose Rizal is more like Batman

    get it :p

  • did you know Jose Rizal had Chinese blood? :) heard it from the news

  • The Whole world should know this man. and watch this movie.

    I wish governments had the characteristics of Dr. Jose Rizal maybe then we wont have conflict and war on this world of battles and fury.

  • Cesar Montano (my most admired actor)+Marilou Diaz-Abaya (my most admired movie director)+Jose Rizal (my most admired hero)= GREAT FILIPINO MOVIE OF ALL TIME

  • Revolt against the Spanish would only lead to a new master while doing nothing only prolongs slavery. What Rizal should have tried was to have the Spanish educate Philippines, not exploit the Spaniards and start the revolution.

    Mabuhay Pilipinas.
