This video shows live reception of Slow Scan Television transmitted from the International Space Station. The receiver chain consisted of USRP+TVRX, GNU Radio FM demodulator and DM780 SSTV decoder.

  • Congrats! Did you use the USRP board for signal reception and Digital Master 780 for realtime SSTV image decoding?

  • Yes, I used the USRP with TVRX frontend and example code from the GNU Radio package. This way, the FM signal was demodulated to audio, which then was sent to another computer running DM780. Originally I hoped to write SSTV decoder software in GNU Radio but I didn't have time for that.

  • Yes, I used DM780 to decode the SSTV from audio. It was running on a different computer (since it only works on windows) and the two computer were connected with audio cable.

    I guess it wouldn't be too hard to implement an SSTV decoder in GNU Radio but there are many formats.

    Very cool! What is the software you are using? or is that a custom app you guys wrote?

    I am also experimenting with USRP and a LFRX and having a bit of hard time with getting a good interface.
