"Generations race-mixing with e.g. ethnic Germans you will have less than 10 percent "jewish" genes, but the person will be labelled "Jewish". Which explains why many German Jews had blond hair and blue eyes.
"
Utter tripe. First u sayJews r not a race then u talk about "race mixing" with Germans. Since when is German a race? I suppose the dark haired Germans are due to mixing with Jews?? So in that case they are one in the same people now.
Excuse me, there is absolute genetic evidence that links most Ashkenazim to an ancient Levantine ancestry (relatively little admixture). Being Jewish is a religion, an ethnicity AND a nation (i.e. a people). Who said anything about Jews being a race?!?! Jews come in all flavours.
Let me tell you, Jews have been in Europe since 600BC, the Ashkenazi culture began in the Rhineland, NOT Eastern Europe although many Jews eventually migrated eastward into Slavic lands.
@Lagolop That's not true. Being "Jewish" defines member of a religious community, not of a "race".
Being "Jewish"" is passed on by the maternal line only. If the mother is "Jewish" (whatever that means), the child, will be tooi, regardless who is the father. After only few Generations race-mixing with e.g. ethnic Germans you will have less than 10 percent "jewish" genes, but the person will be labelled "Jewish". Which explains why many German Jews had blond hair and blue eyes.
Thanks - do you needmy e-mail for links? I get the bit about nomadic then settled-ish. Were they were doing that before they were jews as well? Judea was a settled place tho?The debate about settlement leading to priesthoods and elites in all tribes interesting. The myth of the 'wandering jew' was introduced to my consciousness very early on.The Gypsies - or Roma, whichever you prefer, have some great music from Hungary/Rumania - linked down to Macedonia one way and India the other.
About the cattle dealers, yes the Jews were heavy into that at one point. It's not such a stretch if you recall the history of Jewish ppl. Their entire religious cycle is based on agriculture as originally, Jews were farmers. In europe they were often restricted from owning land so agriculture was an impossibility for many except the wealthy.
In E Europe Jews tended to live in shtetls, small towns with farms around the town.

Yiddish sounds cool. I understand a lot of it.

@Lagolop the majority of those who call themselves "Jewish" today are not Jews but East Europeans.
They converted to Judaism in the middle ages. Being "Jewish" is a religion, not a race and not a people. Listen to Professor Shlomo Sand in Israel.
