dont forget that the Oilers were down 3-0 in Game 7 but Tikkanen scored hattrick included game-winning goal

20 years later this goal must still torment Calgary fans. If Flames had scored in OT then their next opponents would have been LA who strugggled in 1st round to get past a Vancouver team that finished last out of 16 playoff teams and then Minnesota who finished 15th. Calgary would have had about a 50-50 shot in Final vs Pittsburgh who needed six games to dispose of the North Stars. So close, yet so far.

As a Canucks fan I don't like either team, but I've been watching hockey since '69, and this series was the most entertaining brutal series ever.Hats off to both teams!
-
Both the Flames and Oilers battled for league supremacy in that era,let alone the Battle Of Alberta!Hats off to the Oilers for winning a Stanley Cup & at least reaching the final 4 twice after that post-Gretzky!Being a Flames fan, that's not easy to say!

@eeti27 I bet he felt relieved.

@eeti27 It wasn't that he wasn't happy... His knee was shot that year and he could barely put weight on it. He only played 53 games because of it. Look at how he comes off the bench... He's moving like he's 90 yeas old!
This was still the best playoff series Ive ever seen in my life!

This Game 7 Flames OT loss had to be the most devastating of all their record setting Game 7 OT losses because of Theoren Fleury's heroics just 2 nights prior to that.Tikkanen scored a fluky goal but they all count!
