Early 1970s PSA About Racism - "Mixed Company" with Barbara Harris

I originally posted this not knowing the origin, but a fellow YouTuber commented the following:

"Its not a PSA - its a 1974 B movie called Mixed Company with Barbara Harris, Joseph Bologna and Lisa Gerritson (who used to be on the Mary Tyler Moore show)"

This part in particular is a pretty awkward scene. The dad, especially. Wow.

There is an interesting back-story to where I got all these TV spots:

While working in a TV studio in 1999, I met a very strange, eclectic old man who had a collection of vintage, rare and off-color television spots that he had been collecting in his 40+ years of working in television studios. They were professionally archived from film, so the quality of these images is grainy and discolored-- but also very true to the era.

I begged and pleaded to let me have a copy, and *voila* -- I have a copy.

There are dozens of crazy spots on this tape. I will upload as many as YouTube can stomach.

race has nothing to do with this commercials why because everybody in this commercial is fucking stupid and slow. the gril with the pigtails talks like she is stuck in the 1870s. funny part its the 1970s .

People don't hate based on the color of someone's eyes or hair--- so why do they do it based on the color of their skin?!

The movie shows one doesn't need to be in the KKK to be racist, look at the upper-middle class white suburban family encounters a black family for the first time in their lives. The movie carries moral lessons on how people need to treat each other like people & skin color doesn't matter. The fear of blacks or other minorities moving into "all-white/affluent" neighborhoods (same goes to poor or blue-collar backgrounds) is less present now than the 1970s. +

In the 1970s, still you had people more open about their racism/ethnic bias. Whites didn't want blacks move next door, Christians didn't want Jews in their neighborhood & one can hold suspicion of any Mexican/Latino, Asian-American, Italian-American, Polish people & even American Indians they came across in life. In the same time, a single mother raising her own kids are perceived to be all sorts of words I can't type here & homophobia was viewed acceptable to most people at the time as well. +
