Though he was oppressive, I think the Shah ruled Iran much more effectively than the current regime. Iran was a stable, religiously tolerant and secular, liberal and strong country. Women and minorities had rights. The only major problem was the gap between the rich and the poor. Other than that, Iran generally sucks a lot more today.

The Islamic regime is worse than the Shah. frittering away the nation's economy on benefits to the rural folk means less infrastructure, less development and lesser jobs for the general public.
The Shah did make progress in the big picture. Iran had an economy. And true, there was a bit of Americanization going on, but simply left by itself, nationalism would have stood tall in the long run.
The Islamic state has all but destroyed the traditional glory of Pars...

What a wise and intelligent man he was, a man with calm foresight and vision. The Iranian People (after they throw out Ahmaddminejad), ought to invite Prince Reza to return. If the people no longer want a Shah, then let them elect him as their President. Then his dear mother could return and go back to work on restoring equality for all Iranian women
