Performed at Sidewalk Cafe, New York. I had only started learning the basic chords 7 mos ago and barely had any experience of performing live. In spite of having picked up chords of bunch of English and Hindi songs online, I ended up performing this ghazal for which I had figured out chords and strum that sounded right to my novice ear.. That is how fond I am of this ghazal.
That I was totally stage fright stricken novice was obvious with the beads of sweat trickling down my back, my feet shaking and my heart pounding as if people could hear it over the mic. I hadnt prepared a cover note for the song but just to calm my nerves and buy myself time, I gave a short intro. Due to nervousness I bungled up Begum Akhtar and Farida Khanum's references -- needless to say, I am a big fan of their music -- so other fans, pls excuse my error. This video is not about proclamation of talent because I dont claim to have any, it is just about a dream I had woken up from when I knew nothing about guitar and wasn't even a bathroom singer -- it literally came true. This is one of my all time favorite pieces of music, which I can not do justice to by "covering" but this was my humble token tribute to Faiyyaz Hashmi's poetry and all the acclaimed singers who made the ghazal immortal.
I want to play this :) You've done a great job!! Could you please share the chords?
