A 9 foot high bronze statue, set on a 45 ton granite base with a foundation of local amethyst, commands a breathtaking view of Lake Superior. The statue was erected in memory of Terry Fox, the courageous one-legged runner who embarked on a cross-country run for cancer research - the Marathon of Hope. The site is not far from the place where he ended his 5,342 km (3,339 mi.) run, stricken with the disease that ended his life on June 28, 1981. The Visitor Information Centre is a wheelchair accessible with washrooms and pay phone
Amenities: Visitor Information Centre, washrooms, pay phone, wheelchair accessibility.
Located on Highway 11/17 (Thunder Bay Expressway), 1km (.6 miles) east of Hodder Ave
As someone who's never been west of Pittsburgh and not in Canada since 1978, I appreciate this view of the Terry Fox monument in spring. Is the music from "Titanic"? I expected Rose and Jack to show up!
