US Concerned about China's Military Modernization

October first is the 60th anniversary of the People's Republic of China. The nation's armed forces are taking part in a massive program celebrating the Communist Party's takeover in 1949. As VOA's Meredith Buel reports, U.S. officials have carefully watched China's efforts to modernize its military in recent years and are concerned it could pose a threat to America's military power in the Pacific.

America objection to other military is kind of laughable. It is good that US can't unilaterally go to war with anyone they want. Go China. US needs to be balanced. US is current at war all over the world. China none.

America's love/hate relationship with China is hard to understand. On the one hand, we see them as a military threat, but on the other, they hold so much of our debt and own such a huge chunk of our economy it's difficult to imagine pushing them around too much. It's like the PRC and the USA are conjoined twins who are in competition!

Chinese anti-satellite missile blew an orbiting satellite to kingdom come few years back. Killing a satellite is way harder than killing a carrier, so if the Chinese could domestically produce a functional anti-satellite missile, they surely can produce a functional carrier-killer missile.

The world should be more concerned about US military spending. With their economy in the toilet and the greenbacks becoming toilet paper, US can still afford to station troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Japan, Korea, Germany, Kuwait, Italy etc....

OnlyLifeMatters: many countries have missiles can sink ships. Why american worry about China if it doesn't attack China these missiles are useless. I don't think that Chinese will attack USA first because China has never invaded and occupied any country contrast to USA. I am not surprising that American are worrying about the missile. they have such bad records around world after WWII.

China has right to build some decisive weapons to prevent USA.

USA's all the wars, 800 billion annual millitary spending, 1 million cost per soldrier to Afhgan, keep print dollar bill, $ devaluead to 2 center per dollar, millitary indutry complex control the sanate and congress, made the downfall and weakness

yet strange, the american can't do nothing like cheeps and sand to their policy
