Who would have thought even three years ago that we'd be comparing three U.S.-manufactured electric street motorcycles priced for popular consumption, and with no less a mission than to change the world?

While Zero, Brammo and Native may only sometimes allude to this intent, anyone paying attention to all the rhetoric pouring forth can see this is a goal in which these small startups seriously hope to play a significant role...

  • Test the fun EV bikes, like the Empulse. 100 mile range, 100 MPH top speed. (Obviously not concurrent.)

  • @spottedcuscus I never said it was renewable. I said it "will be sustainable until the extremely distant future", thereby implicitly stating that it is, in fact, non-renewable.

  • @nbennettjones Ok, so what part of nuclear energy do you think is renewable? If it was renewable, than where does nuclear waste come from?

  • @martyisabeliever Also, not all energy is generated from fossil fuels. A certain percentage comes from renewable sources. Loads comes from nuclear, which, though it has its problems, will at least be sustainable until the extremely distant future. So easy transport need not end when fossil fuels run out.

  • @martyisabeliever For a start, combustion engines are extremely inefficient. Powerstations are much more efficient. Even when you take into account transmission line losses etc, these bikes are operating at the equivalent of 250-300 mpg. So, efficiency of all our transport will increase fivefold (and 10% of energy in the UK is burned in combustion engines for transport)

Secondly, even now they are much cheaper to run than petrol motorcycles.

  • So when you plug one in; the electricity it comes from a fossil fuel fired generator somewhere else... Correct???? so...just what have we gained?

  • Sell this shitty electric motorcycles and buy new microphones!!! >:O

  • he says they are good for around 20-40 miles before you need to charge it. that's not good enough. if they could go AT LEAST 100 miles on a charge it would be something to consider buying. right now, they aren't worth shit. 10k? for something that can only go 20 to 40 miles? who's going to buy something like that?
