The Prosecutor said something about how Winona posted the ransom for that missing child not out of a charitable act, or because she cared, but to boost her own personal image. Which I think is stupid, because no celebrity is going to help a random person find their child for better publicity. Sorry, that just doesn't happen. Most of them pull an Angelina Jolie and adopt babies or donate to charity. What the prosecutor said was rude, and irrelevant to the case against Ryder.

I feel bad for her. When people shoplift, it's not always because they want or need that item. its for the thrill of it. obviously winona wasnt in a very great mental state (possibly depressed) and used that as some sort of escape? who knows. I'd probably do worse than shoplifting if i had the media driving me insane every day of my life. poor woman.

@Striped27 I agree with Striped. She should have been humiliated for stealing, especially when she could afford to purchase what she stole 1000 times over. She received no jail time, just probation, so I'd say she got off easy. As for the drug abuse, don't forget that she was also charged with possessing perscription medication that she had no perscription for, someting she's been doing for years. A perscription drug abuser is still an abuser.

@LizLovesLollipops I haven't seen that movie yet..but I watched Girl, Interrupted and I couldn't believe Angelina Jolie won an Oscar and Winona didn't. It's terrible. :/ I think she's really pretty, it shouldn't be about your appearance anyway.

I think Winona's an amazing actor and I think the only reason why she did this stuff was because she has a lot of issues with herself. She's confessed to her depression as a teenager and how she still gets that way. She's been told she wasn't pretty enough and she wasn't going to amount to anything.. that's enough to make a person really, really depressed. I'm not saying what she did was right, it obviously wasn't. I would hate to be famous. ;/ To much ridicule.

@toyamac that is an absurd comparison, a shoplifter is stealing from someone's income + that does make Winona a stupid starlet; the starlet junkies, forget them as long as they don't hurt anyone
