Infotron is a 1994 puzzle game by Q Software, a group of high school students. A remake of the Boulder Dash clone Supaplex, Infotron tasks the red gumball Murphy with collecting digital "Infotrons" from inside a computer. Players must avoid a collection of classic hazards and enemies as well as new ones, such as electrical storms and explosives. Like the original Boulder Dash, the game encourages combination of strategy, quick thinking, and reflexes.

This video showcases the game's opening and first few levels. This is the first video I've uploaded from a Mac game; it was recorded with CamStudio, and as such, things control a little sluggishly. Please comment if there's problems with the video!

  • Hi! I wrote this game with two other friends when I was in high school. It was based on a PC game called supaplex. I keep the source code and binaries around; if you've got SheepShaver running, you can play Infotron on it! Visit github.com / davepeck / Murphy /

  • @davepeck2007 Awesome! I'll give the source code a download for posterity's sake. :)

  • where can i get it now?!

  • @TheHardcoreMexican Macintosh Garden is a wonderful resource for old Mac games, give it a look.

  • @losradaros Sounds like the issue is just installing it. But if you don't have StuffIt, then it's hard to install it...

You could try un-Stuffing the file outside of SheepShaver. StuffIt Expander is still available for Windows. Try emptying the files into a new folder, then copying those in.

  • @davepeck2007 Please recreate this game for the iPad. I enjoy both Supaplex & Nanoplex on the iPad but I would prefer Infotron!

  • oh the nostalgia

  • @Obscuritory whenever I try to play it online it says “missing plugin” ????

  • @schtolteheim

Hey, nice. Didn't know that one yet :D

  • @Xuul

Do you know SubTerra? It's not strictly Boulderdash, but it partly uses it for inspiration. It has much more to offer beyond that, a really clever game.
