Arapahoe Basin Opens October 13th 2011

The wait is over! October 13th 2011
Arapaho basin ski area is the first ski area in the nation to open AND REMAIN OPEN for the 2011-2012 ski and snowboard season.

Loveland Ski Area will open on Friday October 14th 2011.

Arapahoe Basin starts out the season by opening the lift called the Black Mountain Express.

As per tradition, snowboarders Trailer Tom, Meesh Hytner, Jeff Meyer and Nate Dogggg camped out to get the first chair.

The crew arrived at 11:30 am on Wednesday, October 12th 2011, to get in line for the grand opening on Thursday October 13th 2011.

Snowboarder Jeff Meyer from Breckenridge Colorado was the first on the scene today, but as you can see from this video Nate Dogggg has been lurking around A-Basin since 4th of July when the resort closed for the 2010-2011 season.


This year will be the 16th year that Nate and Trailer Tom have waited in line for first chair. 2nd Year for Meesh Hytner, and Jeff Meyer has 5+ years at this event.


We get in line many days and sometimes even weeks at a time to claim our spot on the lift.

This year Wolf Creek resort opened on October 8th 2011. Well we were there too. Here is the link to our Wolf Creek video:

The thing is A-Basin will open and stay open for the season.

There was a resort near las Vegas that claimed first to open as they opened at 7:30 am on October 8th (same day as Wolf Creek) only am hour and a half earlier.

But this resort near Las Vegas only opened for the weekend and then they had to close. You will have to be the judge on if opening and then closing counts or not.




This year there was nearly a full moon providing great light for the all night adventure.

Look like opening day will have really nice sunny weather. Come on out and hit the slopes with us first chair crew folks.
