@sayalamar Yup! There was no way THIS frenetic, truck-like skate was a better program than Kwan's. Kwan attempted more triples, and even with that one fall executed everything with more precision and grace. Hughes deserved the top spot in the free skate, but Kwan (who was better than the rest) should have been second in the free skate and should have ended with up with the gold (since Hughes was only 4th in the SP). Kwan was totally robbed of the gold.

@royal511 Nope! If anyone was robbed it was Sasha who had her bronze gifted to Kwan as a consolation prize for screwing up another Olympics. Kwan fell on her boo boo behind on a simplified and downgraded program. Propped in both short and long and with Sasha's bronze, it was still an absolute delight seeing her wrecked face on that podium for the world to see. Irina didn't fall and was simply delighted to be on that podium despite the disappointment.

Instead of arguing about who won what, realize that Michelle and Irina both had great careers--even without an Olympic Gold Medal. It was a blessing. Their rivarly was amazing, beginning at Junior Worlds in 1994. For this, I am proud to say I am a proud skating fan. :)

@Karosanyo Well glad to see you've decided to be objective on that! Kwan was propped up in the short and the brits called it RIGHT! And it just seemed to feed her huge ego in the K&C when she found out she got away with it again despite the sloppy and downgraded skate. At least justice was served in the free skate.

@Karosanyo The ironic thing was Kwan winning the SP probably cost her the silver as I suspect the LP placings would have been reversed if Irina won the SP. After the pairs scandal they were never going to not let Hughes win after she had the best LP, knowing many naive skating fans who dont understand scoring would create an uproar. Reality is she should have been even lower than 4th in the short and never had a chance but oh well.

I agree Kwan's 02 version wasnt as good as her 98 one.

@russianskatingfan I now agree that Irina should have won the SP at these Olympics. I have been watching Kwan's '98 version and it was a masterpiece (check out her '98 Ultimate 4 performance). I dislike how she watered it down in 2002. She should have just left that program alone (it was good that she put in the flip). Irina's SP was really well done (her jumps and speed were really great in that performance). It would have been great if Kwan had her 2003 programs for these Olympics...
