This is not an original Stevie Ray Vaughan composition, but rather a cover of a classic tune from Hank Ballard and the Midnighters. While SRV added his own voice (and arrangement), many of the tune's distinctive guitar flourishes were in place from the original recorded studio performance.
Great performers do, indeed, attempt to impress one another, but then each goes home and tries to figure out the other's licks. You can see the love and respect, here. Blistering stuff.
