Gambia used to be a great place for a family holiday about 15 years ago, but now it is full of beggars, prostitutes and bloody mosques everywhere you go.
My wife and kids just won't go there anymore.
And the worst thing about it is the vile muslim dictator president, Yayah Jammeh, who has destroyed the place and is trying to bring in a law to execute Gambians gays.
Tourism has fallen dramatically in the last 10 years.
Bakau market is the cheapest for goods. If you go ask for the elder Jawara and he'll walk you through all the stores without one person giving you hassle. Mostly because the majority at the market are his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but also out of respect. I normally spend an afternoon with them trying my hand at carving with plenty of laughs along the way. A great market and well worthy of a visit unless you're just going to walk through as its one of the smaller ones.
