First of all, a YouTube buddy of mine is doing currently doing a TOP 20 ALBUMS LIST that I want you guys to check out. He deserves more views as he puts a good effort into them, so make sure to check him out here; http://www.youtube.com/user/faceinembryo
I also want to (finally) thank SirAllAboutMusic for his kind mention on his channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/SirAllAboutMusic). He's a really good guy doing great music reviews (lots of alternative, punk, indie stuff) so while you're at it, check out his channel.
Alright, this is Zvuki Mu, one of the leading avant-garde bands in the Soviet Union. This title track lifted from their debut album from 1988, Krim. The band was formed in Moscow in 1980 by one of the most eccentric figures of the Soviet underground, Pyotr Mamonov.
Zvuki Mu was also one of the few bands of the Soviet underground scene to gain some attention from the outside world, and they were infact invited to London by Brian Eno who produced their third album in 1989. I read a interesting story about the band when they were invited to his house to plan the recording session. He had to leave for a couple hours and told them to feel at home. When he came back the band lay unconscious on the kitchen floor, surrounded by several hundred pounds worth of booze.
Pyotr Mamonov converted to Orthodox Christianity in the 1990s and left music for good. He moved to a small village where apparently still lives today.
This is part 12 on my series on rock from the Soviet Union. Please see the playlist "Underground rock in the Soviet Union" for more!
