Billie proves that you don't have to have a great voice to be an amazing singer. She may not have been able to hit some notes, but the way she emotes the lyrics and "wraps" her voice around the words is just unique and amazing. Even in her later years when she basically lost her voice, she never lost the ability to make you FEEL each song.

A lot of today's singers just try to hit the high notes and scream their way through songs. It's annoying and lazy.

What was great about Billie - apart from the fact that she created god - was the raw sex. She sang a half beat after the musicians - her drawl was what took you to bed - and you begged to die there. Bless you girl - I wish I had met you.

I think he meant that she didn't have a huge range and didn't do those really high belting notes... and yet she sings much better than those that "we" now consider to be fantastic, but seem to lack a lot of this soulfulness that she has
