Yeah, wouldn't it be a blessing for some of the T/F teams to be able to get 2-3 passes out of a motor before they have to completely overhaul it? I think the NHRA could and should look at the entire combination and see where they can pull the reigns back a bit. Guys like Snake had day jobs and built their cars with THEIR OWN MONEY back in the day. You shouldn't have to have a national sponsor to run on Sundays.
The Snake's argument, in 2011, centers around a couple of specific items including fuel pump capacity and blower overdrive. WHY NOT require that top fuel & funny cars have restrictions on these two items and I guarantee you there would be far fewer oil downs and competition that would still be outstanding. You could go back to 1,320 feet (a REAL quarter-mile) and everything would still be fun. And one last thing about 60's drag racing; John Force was nowhere in sight back in the glory days.
